- •-Patients with COPD scheduled for a thoracotomy for resection of a small pulmonary tumor.
- •-Patients with normal lung function scheduled for a thoracotomy for resection of a small pulmonary tumor. (These patients will serve as controls).
- •-Age: >18 years
- •-Gender: both male and female
- •-all ethnic backgrounds
排除标准
- •-CHF (NYHA class III-IV)
- •-Neuromuscular disease
- •-Drugs known to alter muscle structure and function
- •-Chronic metabolic disease
- •-Pulmonary hypertension
- •-Chronic use of corticosteroids (defined as >7.5 mg/day for at least 3 months)
- •->10% weight loss within last 6 months.
