The inclusion criteria were as follows: Iranian nationality; being single; age range of 15-18 years; hemoglobin level of 10-12 g/dL; modified Mentzer index greater than 14; red cell distribution width more than 14.6%; serum ferritin level lower than12 ng/L.
The exclusion criteria were as follows: following a special diet for obesity or Weight loss; hydrotherapy; vegetarianism; raw food diets; accidents resulting in burns, or bleeding, or blood transfusion in the past two months; use of chemical or herbal medications interfering with the treatment process; psychosomatic disorders affecting the treatment; parasitic infestations causing anemia; abnormal menstrual bleeding; chronic diarrhea; use of tobacco.
The exclusion criteria during the study were as follows: the preliminary exclusion criteria ;intolerable side-effects of consuming Portulaca Oleracea or ferrous sulfate; stressful events during the study period; febrile diseases; diarrhea more than 48 hours; use of powder or tablets less than 5 days a week or non-use of powder or tablets for 4 days in a week; unwillingness to continue the study

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Hemoglobin level. Timepoint: Before and4 weeks after the intervention( the end of treatment). Method of measurement: Venous bloo samples.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia. Timepoint: Before and 5 weeks after the intervention (one week after the end of treatment). Method of measurement: Visual Analog Scale (0-10) indicating the symptoms of iron deficiency anemia.
