SECTIONAL STUDY
Background:
Osteoporosis is a major public health issue, with low awareness and poor preventive practices contributing to its burden. This study aims to assess knowledge, health beliefs, and associated factors influencing osteoporosis prevention in a community setting.
Objectives:

Evaluate knowledge and health beliefs about osteoporosis.

Assess the association between knowledge, beliefs, and preventive behaviors (e.g., calcium intake, exercise).

Identify barriers to osteoporosis prevention in the community.
Methods:
• Study Design: Cross-sectional, community-based study.
• Location: Tondiarpet, Chennai.
• Sample Size: 384 participants.
• Data Collection:
• Validated osteoporosis knowledge questionnaire.
• Osteoporosis Health Belief Scale (OHBS).
• Self-reported lifestyle and preventive behaviors.
• Analysis: Descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis.
Expected Outcome:
The study will identify gaps in awareness, misconceptions, and barriers to osteoporosis prevention, helping design targeted health education programs to improve preventive practices.

- •1.Residents of the selected community for atleast six months 2.Participants who know languages (English, Tamil)
- •Individuals who provide written inform consent to participate in the study 4.Participants who are able to comprehend and respond to the questionnaire.
- •Individuals willing to provide information on their Knowledge, Health beliefs.
排除标准
- •1.Temporary residents or visitors to the community 2.Individuals with severe illness, psychiatric conditions that prevent them from responding to the questionnaire
- •Participants who have already been diagnosed with osteoporosis
- •Individuals working in health related fields (eg: doctor, nurse, dietitian’s) to avoid bias due to higher baseline knowledge
- •Participants who fail to complete a significant portion of the questionnaire.
