- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method In patients with clinical suspicion of ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP) , diagnostic performance of combination of lung ultrasound plus S.procalcitonin

for diagnosis of VAP will be assessed by sensitivity, specificity , positive predictive value and negative predictive value and compared with white blood cells, procalcitonin , C-reactive protien or Clinical pulmonary infection score alone.Timepoint: only those patients who are on mechanical ventilation for than or equal to 48hours with clinical suspicion of ventilator associated pneumonia will be included in the study .

baseline test that will be done at inclusion of patient in the study.no further follow up is required:

lung ultrasound

procalcitonin

CRP

Tracheal aspirate for culture and stains

chest x ray

chest CT ( ONLY IF ADVISED FOR TREATMENT)

White blood cells

- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method sensitivity , specificity and diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound and procalcitonin in comparison to white blood cell count, Procalcitonin , C Reactive protein or clinical pulmonary infection score aloneTimepoint: time frame : upto 30days
