(a) either fulfill criteria for a major depressive disorder according to DSM-IV-TR criteria in the last six months or fulfill the criteria for a recurrent major depression with at least two previous episodes and currently in remission for no longer than 2 years
(b) 18-70 years old
(c) fluent in German
(d) have access to internet
(e) are treated in one of the study hospitals
(a) current substance/alcohol addiction (but not nicotine-addiction)
(b) primary reason for inpatient treatment is substance/alcohol abuse or an eating disorder
(c) acute psychotic symptoms
(d) schizophrenia, schizoaffective, schizotypal or bipolar disorder
(e) any mood disorder due to general medical conditions
(f) high risk for suicide

Name Time Method Time to depressive relapse/recurrence over a follow-up period of 12 month after inpatient discharge (relapse/recurrence: according to DSM-V-TR criteria as assessed by SCID for DSM-IV; time to relapse/recurrence assessed with life chart)
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method 12 month after inpatient discharge: (a) observer-rated (HRSD, QIDS) and self-reported (PHQ-9) depression severity, (b) depression free days (time of not meeting DSM-IV criteria for depression according to SCID as assessesd with<br>life chart), (c) number of patients in remission and recovery (SCID), (d) numbers and severity of relapse/recurrence (DSM-IV qualifiers mild, moderate and severe according to SCID), (e) quality of life (EQ-5D, SF-6D), (f) cost-effectiveness and cost-utility from a societal perspective (costs measured with Tic-P)
