Brief Summary

This study comprises a clinical study to evaluate the effect of agnikarma and panchatikta guggulu in the management of  janu sandhigatvata(osteoarthritis of knee joint). Acharya sushruta has described that the best treatment for vataja and kaphaja is agnikarma. agnikarma can be done when sever pain occurs in twaka, mamsa, sira, snayu, sandhi due to vataprakopa. Agnikarma   is non-pharmacological treatmwnt (para-surgical) which has definite role in sandhigatvata. with emphasis of the ayurvedic approach of the agnikarma treatment, which cures the disease and does not require potent analgesics for long period, is selected for trial in this study with the panchatikta guggulu for internal use to prove its better out come.



procedure- in group :A, for 30 days panchatikta guggulu tablet (500mg) 2TDS with luke warm water 1 hour after meal, agnikarma with panchdhatu shalaka 4 sitting of 1 week interval and in group: B,placebo capsule (5oomg) TDS for 30 days , agnikarma with panchdhatu shalaka 4 sitting of 1 week interval will be advised and result will be noticed after 30 days through relief in clinical sign, symptoms and changes in X-Ray knee joint.

Inclusion Criteria

1)patients suffering from janu sandhigatavata(osteoarthritis of knee joint) 2)patients betweeb the age group 35-70 years of both sex 3)relapse cases after previous agnikarma of knee joint.

Exclusion Criteria
  • Age below 35 years and above 70 years 2.
  • Patients of Diabetes mellitus, R.A (Rheumatoid Arthritis) positive, Gross Knee Joint Effusion 3.
  • Other Diseases like Paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, severe Anemia, and Malignancy.
  • Pregnant and Lactating females 5.
  • Known cases of secondary O.A. due to T.B., Syphilis, AIDS, Leprosy etc.
