Inclusion Criteria
All consecutive neonates admitted in the unit fulfilling following criteria will be included in the study:
1)Gestational age >=35 weeks, if not ascertainable, then admission weight >1500 g.
2)Postnatal age 14 days or less
3)Total serum bilirubin in the severe hyperbilirubinemia range requiring intervention as per AAP guidelines
Exclusion Criteria
1)Neonates who have undergone exchange transfusion prior to enrollment
2)Neonates with gross congenital malformation
