eurofeedback as a non-pharmacological and non-invasive alternative to treat young patients with ADHD and co-morbid tic symptoms – A pilot study in a community setting.

The present pilot-study explored the feasibility of an intensive SCP-based NF training in unmedicated young patients with ADHD and comorbid tics and examined the first preliminary clinical findings. The recruitment was difficult due to a list of criteria rather strict. Nevertheless, a qualitative analysis of the data of two participants was performed and showed a small decrease in ‘Hyperactive/Impulsive’ symptoms and a small reduction in tic frequency in both participants with-in the week following the NF training. The preliminary findings may confirm in principle the feasibility of the current approach in unmedicated young people with ADHD and comorbid tics. However, a larger sample size and placebo/control group are needed to determine the specific therapeutic effects of an intensive 10 SCP-based NF session program.
