Inclusion Criteria

Patient presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding with portal hypertension diagnosed by clinical, biochemical, radiological investigation and presence of esophageal varices confirmed on endoscopy.

-First episode of variceal bleed.

-Age 13 years and above.

-Patient undergoing endoscopic therapy.

Exclusion Criteria

-Concomitant gastric varices or any other additional upper gastrointestinal source of bleed

-Hepatocellular carcinoma / any other malignancy

-Debilitating illness like cerebro vascular accident, severe ischemic heart disease

-Use of vasoactive medicines & endoscopic therapy before being referred to our hospital
