简要总结

Metabolic syndrome is a group of comorbidities that, when associated, raise the risk of developing mellitus type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome has been increasing as much in developed countries as in developing countries. Insulin resistance seems to be associated with the group of factors in patients with metabolic syndrome. The installation of insulin resistance is mainly related to chronic inflammation of low degree and oxidative stress. Avocado oil, a resource of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), has shown positive outcomes in the improvement of oxidative stress, but only in an animal model. Therefore, the current study has pursued to appraise the effects of avocado oil on oxidative parameters and insulin resistance in obese patients who have metabolic syndrome. 33 obese people with metabolic syndrome were recruited at the age between 30 and 65 years old. They were divided into 2 groups to consume daily either 10ml of soybean oil (n = 17) or avocado oil (n = 16) for 3 months. No instructions of any kind were given to them in order to modify their diet during the time of the study. Anthropometric assessments were done, such as the rate of body mass and waist circumference. Furthermore, blood dosages were done to determine the lipidic profile, the oxidative parameters, and the insulin resistance, before and after the use of the oils. No differences among the assessed parameters in the group that consumed the avocado oil were observed. The management group had an increase in HOMA IR (Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance) after the intervention. In conclusion, the avocado oil didn't present differences in the oxidative parameters or in the insulin resistance in obese patients with metabolic syndrome.
