Beneficial effects of trehalose eye-drops on the postoperative course after anti-glaucomatous trabeculectomy surgery
- Conditions
- primary or secondary open angle glaucomaglaucoma, open angleD005902
- Registration Number
- JPRN-jRCTs021180008
- Lead Sponsor
- akazawa Mitsuru
- Brief Summary
A beneficial effect of trehalose ophthalmic drops could not be confirmed during the observation period in this study. This may be due to the fact that intraoperative mitomycin C had already been applied to all patients in this study, which itself has a strong effect of maintaining filtration vesicles and lowering intraocular pressure, which may have masked any effect of the addition of trehalose on inhibiting fibroblast proliferation. A longer study period is needed in the future.
