Obesity isa type of nutritional disorder, due to imbalance between energy intake and energyexpenditure resulting in positive energy balance, characterized by the abnormalgrowth of adipose tissue, resulting in an increase in the body weight.
Recentstudies have reported that globally, more than 1.9 billion adults areoverweight and 650 million are obese. In India, more than 135 millionindividuals are affected by obesity. *Sthoulya* is definedas excessive and abnormal increase of *medo dhatu* along with *maamsadhatu* resulting in pendulous appearance and *chalatwa of spik, udara andsthana*. Body massindex (BMI) is a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly used toclassify overweight and obesity in adults.
An obeseperson is always prone to develop the complications like, Coronary heartdisease, Diabetes mellitus, Osteoarthritis, Dyslipedemia, Hypertention as wellas psychological disorders like Anxiety, Stress and Depression.
Practicingappropriate *Pathya* is given equal importance, along with the treatmentin the management of *Sthoulya.*
*Acharyas* advised to consume *guru-atarpana, kapha-vatahara ahara dravyas* in management of *sthoulya*

1)Subjects with BMI 25-34.9 kg/m2 2)Age group between 21-45 years, irrespective of their gender, religion and socio-economic status.
1)Subjects with BMI 35 kg/m2 and above 2)Subjects with any systemic disorders 3)Pregnant and Lactating women 4)Subjects taking drugs like NSAID’s, Anti-histamines, oral contraceptives etc.
