Inclusion Criteria

1) patients age :between 20 and 80 years of age
2) scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia
3) having an American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status of I–II
4) being able to use an IV-PCA.

Exclusion Criteria

1) were pregnant or breastfeeding,
2) had a history of allergy to fentanyl
3) had a contraindication for general anesthesia
4) had major organ diseases
5) had a history of drug abuse
