Inclusion Criteria

Inclusion criteria for the study group:

1. Children with a retrognathic mandible and a normal/prognathic maxilla as determined by a

physical and radiographic examination and who require myofunctional therapy.

2. Children with skeletal class II malocclusion with angle ANB â�¥ 5�° and AO ahead of BO ( >1 mm)

3. Children with a good visual treatment objective

4. Children with at least one sleep problem as determined by a validated sleep questionnaire.

Inclusion criteria for the control group:

1. Children with a retrognathic mandible and a normal/prognathic maxilla as determined by a

physical and radiographic examination and who require myofunctional therapy.

2. Children with skeletal class II malocclusion with angle ANB â�¥ 5�° and AO ahead of BO ( >1 mm)

3. Children with a good visual treatment objective

4. Children with no history of sleep problems

Exclusion Criteria

1. Children with obesity (BMI > 95th percentile for age and gender).

2. Children who have a history of medical illness.

3. Children with prior history of sleep apnea treatment with continuous positive airway

pressure (CPAP) or oral appliances/orthodontic treatment.

4. Children on steroids, chronic anti-inflammatory drugs or opioid pain medication.

5. Children with mouth breathing.
