Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1\.Controls and cases will be of both genders, aged 18 \- 24 months, all consuming an adequate daily intake of energy and protein and not being breast\-fed.
- •2\.Controls will have good health, normal weight and height and normal gut function.
- •3\.Cases will be otherwise healthy except for presence of EED and possibly stunting (HAZ \< \-2SD).
Exclusion Criteria
- •1\.For all children will be presence of chronic infection(s) or a pre\-existing medical condition
- •2\.Recent history ( \<1 month) of intestinal or other morbidity
- •3\.Antibiotic usage in the last 4 weeks of study recruitment.
