Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • 1\.Age of patients greater than 12 years with localized alopecia areata over scalp.
  • 2\.Presence of five or fewer patches of alopecia areata, involving less than 50% scalp area

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1\.Patients who have received topical or oral treatment for alopecia areata in the past 1 month.
  • 2\.Alopecia areata over areas other than scalp.
  • 3\.Presence of ophiasis, diffuse alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis patients.
  • 4\.Other coexisting hair disorder diagnosed based on clinical history and examination (trichotillomania, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, tinea capitis)
  • 5\.Pregnancy
  • 6\.Presence of any contraindication or allergy for topical corticosteroids or topical methotrexate.
  • 7\.Patient having steroid induced side effects like atrophy, telangiectasia etc.
  • 8\.Patients who are not willing to participate.
