Subjects aged 30-60 years with body mass index greater than 25kg/m²
Subjects were excluded if they were allergic to kimchi or its ingredients, have absorbing disorder, or had body weight change within 10% during the past three months. Subjects suffering from any weight-influencing diseases, thyroid disease, hepatic disease (ALT, AST =2.5*normal values), heart disease, renal disease (Cr > 2.0mg/dL), cancer, critical hypertension, or other chronic diseases were excluded. Subjects were also excluded if they had taken hormone drugs, SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors), medications related to weight loss, antibiotics or probiotics within the past month, or any other medications that might impact gut microbiota. Smokers and pregnant women were also excluded for the same reason.
