Patients of both sexes were included in the present study; aged between 18 and 40 years; who had at least six upper anterior teeth free of caries and restorations on the buccal surface; central or canine incisor with A2 or darker coloration; satisfactory oral hygiene; absence of periodontal disease.
The individuals excluded from the study were users of fixed orthodontic appliances; pregnant women; lactating women; severe intrinsic stains on teeth (stains due to tetracycline, fluorosis and pulped teeth); who were consuming any anti-inflammatory and antioxidant drugs; using desensitizing toothpaste; participants with a previous history of tooth sensitivity or any associated pathology (bruxism, gingival recession, noncarious lesion with dentin exposure).
