* Healthy males and females between 18 and 45 years of age
* Sedentary lifestyle (defined as being involved in less than 30 minutes of moderately-intense physical activity per day)
* For the ID group: Mild (IQ between 50-70) or moderate (IQ between 35-49) intellectual disability.
* Presence of any known genetic syndrome causing ID (e.g. Down syndrome)
* Severe or profound intellectual disability
* Motor impairments that would limit treadmill exercise
* History of cardiovascular disease, diabetes or any other metabolic disease that may affect the resting and exercise measures
* Inflammatory disease
* Asthma or other significant respiratory disorders
* Cancer in the last six months
* Any heart-rate-altering medications or any other medication that may alter metabolic responses
* Smoking
* Any contraindications to exercise, assessed with the revised Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire
* Pregnancy
* Any other contra-indications to performing a maximal exercise test
