Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •1\.No preoperative voice dysfunction.
  • •2\. No preoperative corrected hypocalcemia.
  • •3\. Patient requiring total/neartotal thyroidectomy.
  • •4\. Normal preoperative serum calcium and iPth.

Exclusion Criteria

  • •1\. Refusal to give consent.
  • •2\. History of head and neck surgery and previous irradiation.
  • •3\. Known vocal cord dysfunction on laryngoscopy.
  • •4\. Contraindication to use dexamethasone.
  • •stomach and duodenal ulcer disease currently or in the past.
  • •5\. taking medications that affect calcium metabolism: anti\-resorptive drugs, anabolic drugs,thiazide diuretics, furosemide, proton pump inhibitors, antacids.
  • •6\. Staged thyroidectomy will not be included in study.(like completion thyroidectomy)
  • •7\. Thyroid malignancy with extrathyroid extension or requiring LN dissection will be excluded from study.
