Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1.No preoperative voice dysfunction.
- •2. No preoperative corrected hypocalcemia.
- •3. Patient requiring total/neartotal thyroidectomy.
- •4. Normal preoperative serum calcium and iPth.
Exclusion Criteria
- •1. Refusal to give consent.
- •2. History of head and neck surgery and previous irradiation.
- •3. Known vocal cord dysfunction on laryngoscopy.
- •4. Contraindication to use dexamethasone.
- •stomach and duodenal ulcer disease currently or in the past.
- •5. taking medications that affect calcium metabolism: anti-resorptive drugs, anabolic drugs,thiazide diuretics, furosemide, proton pump inhibitors, antacids.
- •6. Staged thyroidectomy will not be included in study.(like completion thyroidectomy)
- •7. Thyroid malignancy with extrathyroid extension or requiring LN dissection will be excluded from study.
