Inclusion Criteria

1.No preoperative voice dysfunction.

2. No preoperative corrected hypocalcemia.

3. Patient requiring total/neartotal thyroidectomy.

4. Normal preoperative serum calcium and iPth.

Exclusion Criteria

1. Refusal to give consent.

2. History of head and neck surgery and previous irradiation.

3. Known vocal cord dysfunction on laryngoscopy.

4. Contraindication to use dexamethasone.

stomach and duodenal ulcer disease currently or in the past.

5. taking medications that affect calcium metabolism: anti-resorptive drugs, anabolic drugs,thiazide diuretics, furosemide, proton pump inhibitors, antacids.

6. Staged thyroidectomy will not be included in study.(like completion thyroidectomy)

7. Thyroid malignancy with extrathyroid extension or requiring LN dissection will be excluded from study.

To study effectiveness of prophylactic steroid in prevention of hypocalcemia both clinically and laboratory in patient undergoing total/neartotal thyroidectomy.Timepoint: CALCIUM level will be measured before the operation then CALCIUM level after 6hr, 24hr, 48hr and 2weeks after surgery
