Inclusion Criteria

Newborns (<28 days), of both genders, independent of gestational age admitted to the hospital unit studied.

Exclusion Criteria

Babies with cerebral anatomical abnormality; injury or bone fracture; Apnea history less than 72h; Venous access infiltrates or lost at the time of research; baby who were undergoing painful invasive procedures such as punctures and passing of a nasogastric tube or vesical cathetein less than 1 hour of the study intervention; involvements of the CNS as cerebral hemorrhages, syndromes with neurological impairment, seizure history and hypertension; and also the presence of congenital heart disease.

Primary Outcome Measures

It is expected that the pain levels found in newborns during blood collection for newborn screening, are lower in venipuncture of the hand group.Parameter evaluated from the NFCS neonatal pain scale.
Secondary Outcome Measures

It is hoped that the painful sensation level during the blood collection procedure are lower in newborns at term. Parameter evaluated from the NFCS neonatal pain scale.<br>It is expected that the group submitted to venipuncture in hand, occurs less changes in vital signs during the procedure. Evaluation of heart rate and oxygen saturation measured before, during and after the procedure.<br>It is expected that the number of punctures to the appropriate blood collection for newborn screening is less venipuncture group at hand.
