Clinical feasibility, usability, and acceptance of the Re-Link Gait Trainer in sub-acute stroke rehabilitation

This observational feasibility study achieved its aims, by evaluating whether it is feasible to use the ReLink gait trainer in sub-acute stroke rehabilitation for walking. We found that patients and therapists chose to use the trainer for around 25% of walking therapy sessions, and that around 12% of people admitted for inpatient stroke rehabilitation are likely to consent to participation in a trial of the trainer. We also observed no adverse effects of using the trainer. This is essential information for planning a potential future randomised controlled trial of the trainer. The qualitative feedback about the trainer was generally positive, and has also identified some simple ways that it could be improved.

入选标准
- •i.First time ischaemic stroke or intracerebral haemorrhage within the previous 4 weeks resulting in hemiplegia
- •ii.At least 18 years old
- •iii.May have had thrombolysis or thrombectomy
- •iv.Gait impairment (FAC score < 4)
- •v.Must be able to stand with assistance of no more than two people
- •vi.Undergoing gait rehabilitation
排除标准
- •i.Unable to follow a one-step command, precluding instruction on how to use the Re-Link Trainer
- •ii.Cognitive or communication impairment that would preclude informed consent and completion of written or verbal questionnaire
- •iii.Previous stroke
- •iv.Cerebellar stroke
- •v.Pre-stroke FAC score < 4 (not independent).
- •vi.Requires hoist transfers
- •vii.Palliative care
