The Effectiveness of Musical Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy on the Symptoms of Insomnia Disorder in seniors<br /> By<br /> Reza Mottaghi1, Ali Kamkar*2, Alireza Mardpoor3<br /> Abstract<br /> The aim of the present research is to study the effectiveness of musical therapy (MAT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on the overall quality of sleep and the subscales of senior’s sleep disorder in seniors who are suffering from primary insomnia disorder. This study consisted of 61 patients with primary insomnia disorder that were randomly placed into three groups consisting of two experimental groups and one control group. The experimental group one takes part in musical and cognitive-behavioral group therapy and the experimental group two takes part in cognitive-behavioral group therapy while the last group received no intervention. All patients in this study were measured for the level of disorder before and after the treatment using PSQI scale of insomnia disorder. The collected data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance or MANCOVA and ANCOVA. Member of the Jahandidegan adult day center in Shiraz? Older than 60 years? Having diagnosed with primary insomnia disorder? Holding the sleep quality (PSQI) grade more than 5? have under 80% sleep quality? Smoke less than 10 cigarettes a day? Literacy? Have their written consent for taking part in this study.
Exclusion criteria: Secondary insomnia disorder? Medical problems and general medicine that leads to insomnia? Senior’s disinterest about the program? The participant’s death.
