•1. First time unilateral ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke confirmed by the treating physician and managed with medications
•2. Stable patients as stated by the treating physicians and referred for rehabilitation
•3. Time since stroke onset 5 â?? 45 days (early subacute phase of stroke)
•4. Age > 20 years
•5. Barthel index score < 65
•6. Able to sit and stand (unsupported or supported â??single men support or holding onto supports such as the edge of the bed)
•7. Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate with investigators
•8. Provision of written informed consent

•1. Intracranial hemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation
•2. Severe neglect and perceptual disorders
•3. Cerebellar or brainstem lesions that might affect balance
•4. Mini Mental Scale <24
•5. Inability to perform required physical exercise
•6. Required help of at least 1 person to walk before stroke due to neurological or non-neurological co-morbidities
•7. Any additional neurological, cardiorespiratory disorders and orthopedic diseases causing motor deficits (e.g. fracture, degenerative joint changes, or clinical instability of the hip or knee joint)
•8. Type II diabetes, dyslipidemia and systemic hypertension not under control as stated by the treating physician.
•9. Current participation in another interventional trial
