Inclusion Criteria
Criteria for a chronic generalized periodontitis
1•Presence of a minimum of 15 natural teeth(excluding third molars)
2•Clinical and radiographic presence of pocket depth of 5-8mm and with generalized moderate alveolar bone loss and clinical attachment level of 3-4mm
Criteria for smoking :
3•Smokers(who smoked atleast 5 cigarettes a day during at least 5 years)
Exclusion Criteria
•Pregnancy or lactation
•Use of antibiotics or periodontal treatment in the preceding 6 months
•Concomitant medical therapy
•Subjects with Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, tumours.
•Any other systemic disease which can alter the course of periodontal disease.
