Inclusion Criteria
All Gastro-intestinal cancer patients who are anemic undergoing treatment in department ofsurgery, JIPMER.
Exclusion Criteria
1 Patient < 18 years of age.
2 Patient with known existing inflammatory and hematological disorders,
3 Patients with active infection
4 Presence of active bleeding
5 Renal insufficiency
6 History of blood transfusion and iron supplements in the preceding 12 weeks
7 Patients undergoing emergency surgeries.

Name Time Method To study the association of systemic inflammation, tumour characteristics and immediate postoperative outcome among various anemia subgroups in patients who undergo treatment for GI cancers.Timepoint: 2 weeks.

Name Time Method 1 To evaluate the association of tumor characteristics and immediate post-operative outcome among different grades of modified Glasgow prognostic score (systemic inflammation) in patients who undergo treatment for GI cancers. <br/ ><br>2 To assess the difference if any in the prevalence of anemia and severity of inflammatory response in the upper GI and lower GI cancers <br/ ><br>Timepoint: 2 weeks
