ong term follow-up data were available for 94% (n=446) of eligible participants. The median time to recurrence of cancer or death was 2.8 years in the control group and 2.6 years in the epidural group. Recurrence free survival was similar in both epidural and control groups .

Patients previously enrolled in MASTER Trial 1995-2001. ASA III-IV patients (American Society of Anesthesiology physical status classification) having major abdominal surgery.
Patients not enrolled in MASTER Trial. Patients were excluded if they were inelligible for epidural anaesthesia due to sepsis, impaired coagulation status, infection at epidural puncture site, non-vascular disorder or impaired mental state.
