The effect of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) on airway smooth muscle in asthma - ICS and ASM in asthmaAsthma is a disease characterised by reversible airways obstruction, bronchial hyper-responsiveness (BHR), and chronic inflammation of the bronchial mucosal lining. Structural changes in the airway wall, collectively known as airway wall remodelling, include, subbasement membrane thickening, smooth muscle hyperplasia/hypertrophy, and collagen deposition. These changes may be responsible for an increased decline in lung function, irreversible airflow obstruction and BHR seen in chronic asthma.MedDRA version: 9.1Level: LLTClassification code 10003553Term: AsthmaEUCTR2007-006664-29-GBImperial College12
