Inclusion criteria Part I - Cases
• Patient of either sex of age between 18 â?? 45 years, willing to participate from OPD of AIIA.
• Newly diagnosed cases of anemia with a hemoglobin level less than 12 gm/dl in females and 13 gm/dl in males as per WHO criteria.
• Serum ferritin level below 15 mg /dl36.
Part I - Controls
• Healthy volunteers of either sex with age between 18 â?? 45 years coming to the AIIA.
• With hemoglobin levels of females greater than 12.0 gm/dl, and males greater than 13.0 gm/dl41.
• No history of any disease for the past 6 months
Part II (Inclusion criteria of cases for interventional study)
• Hemoglobin Level between 7 - 12 gm % i.e., mild to moderate cases of IDA.
• Rest as per inclusion criteria of Part - I
• Other coexisting nutritional deficiency anemias.
• Therapeutic-induced anemia (ex. Ibuprofen, NSAIDâ??s, Aspirin).
• Anemia of chronic inflammation / systemic disease (ex. Tuberculosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes mellitus).
• Identifiable source of blood loss.
• Parasitic infestation.
• Hemolytic anemias.
• Patients having coagulopathies or on anticoagulant therapy.
• Pregnant and lactating women.
