To estimate the proportion of patients started on higher generation broad-spectrum antibiotics who have MDR (multidrug-resistant) organisms in index microbiology culture.

简要总结

Patients who present to all clinical departments in a tertiary level teaching hospital in South India are considered. Patients who are administered upfront empirical higher generation broad spectrum antibiotics ( vancomycin, linezolid, meropenem, tigecycline, colistin, piperacillin-tazobactam, cefoperazone-sulbactam), who satisy the inclusion criteria are enrolled after taking informed consent. 

The data is collected based on a purpose designed proforma. The data collected will be entered into an Excel spreadsheet.

The data collected includes patient demographics, clinical diagnosis, culture and laboratory parameters, and the therapy started

  • a)Patients above 18 yrs of age b)Patients administered Higher generation broad-spectrum antibiotics empirically c)Culture specimen was taken before starting primary therapy.

排除标准

  • a)Improper documentation of details b)Patients given higher-generation broad-spectrum antibiotics(HGBSA) without index culture specimens taken.

To estimate the proportion of patients started on higher generation broad-spectrum antibiotics who have MDR (multidrug-resistant) organisms in index microbiology culture.

时间窗: Every 4 weeks

次要结局

  • to determine the clinical parameters associated with MDR microbial infections.(1 year)
