Physically inactive volunteers; aged between 18 and 59 years; both genders; with report of persistent or intercurrent low back pain for more than three months; low back pain, with physical characteristics compatible with mechanical etiology according to the evaluation and treatment guidelines proposed by the American College of Physicians and by the American Pain Society
History of spinal surgery; pregnancy; absence of safe hemodynamic conditions to perform walking or clinical tests; significant increase in pain during the tests, making walking an intolerant activity by the perception of the volunteer; worsening of the chronic condition on the day of the test, identified by pain intensity measured by the visual analog scale (VAS), at rest, greater than eight; symptoms of acute diseases, such as colds and flu; body mass index (BMI) greater than 30

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Evaluation of locomotor parameters (self-selected walking speed) and muscle strength (trunk extensor strength) before and after 2 Pain Neurophysiology Education classes. The changes in pain beliefs induced by the intervention are expected to affect psychosocial aspects and, as a consequence, make walking speed faster and increase the ability to generate force
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Psychosocial parameters (kinesiophobia, catastrophizing, qualitative pain perception and knowledge of pain neurophysiology) before and after 2 Pain Neurophysiology Education classes. Pain neurophysiology education is expected to modify psychosocial aspects by reducing kinesiophobia, catastrophizing, and pain perception, while increasing the volunteer's knowledge of pain processing
