Brief Summary

This is a comparative study done to evaluate the amount of silver ions in carious lesions in tooth treated with silver diamine fluoride, silver diamine fluoride followed by potassium iodide and silver diamine fluoride with light curing for 20 seconds. SDF increases the resistance to acid dissolution andincreases mineral density and hardness. A rich mineralised layer can be foundon the surface of arrested carious lesions. It also exhibits controlof caries infection, simplicity of use, affordability, minimal requirement fortraining and it is a minimally invasive treatment. Potassium iodide(KI) is a salt that generates white or transparent hexahedral crystals.Applying KI with SDF creates a silver iodide precipitate that is yellow, insoluble and does not cause black staining on the tooth. It is seen that curingof SDF using light emitting diode (LED) light curing increased precipitation ofsilver ions in the infected dentine layer of the carious lesion.

Primary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
SDF increases the resistance to acid dissolution and increases mineral density and hardness. A rich mineralised layer can be found on the surface of arrested carious lesions.Applying KI with SDF creates a silver iodide precipitate that is yellow, insoluble and does not cause black staining on the toothSilver penetration at 1min, after 2min and after 20seconds
Secondary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
Efficiency of SDF when applied alone and when applied with potassium iodide and light curing.Efficiency of SDF when applied alone and when applied with potassium iodide and light curing.
