•Inclusion criteria were nulliparous and multiparous women with singleton pregnancy between 37 to 42 weeks, with obstetric or medical indications for induction, and unfavorable cervix (the initial Bishop score of <=6), vertex presentation, reactive fetal heart rate pattern, absence of labor/uterine contractions.

•Women who were excluded from the study were malpresentations, presence of labor/uterine contractions, Suspected cephaloâ??pelvic disproportion, estimated fetal weight of >4000 grams, maternal age of <18 years, parity of >=5, favorable cervix (Bishop Score >6), previous caesarean delivery or history of uterine scar, multiple gestations, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, fetal distress, any contraindication for vaginal delivery or prostaglandins administration and suspected chorioamnionitis.
