Inclusion Criteria

Inclusion Criteria :Patients attending OPD or are admitted in Neurology ward/Geriatric Medicine ward/General medicine ward or Medical Oncology ward with chronic meningitis diagnosed on the basis of composite clinical criteria, imaging criteria as well as natural history of the illness

1)Atleast 14 years of age of all sexes

2)Chronic meningitis : Case definition

a.Headache with or without fever, nuchal stiffness and systemic symptoms

AND

b. CSF suggestive of meningitis Pleocytosis ( >20 cells per μL) with lymphocyte predominance ( >50%) OR Protein concentration greater than age-specific normal value; especially >1·0 g/L OR Glucose concentration less than 60% of concentration in blood OR MRI suggestive of meningeal enhancement on contrast enhanced T1 sequences AND

c. Deemed by the treating physician that the syndrome is consistent with chronic meningitis

3. Patients who are positive for antibodies to HIV and pregnant females will also be included.

4. Willing to undergo periodic assessment clinically and with MRI as per clinical condition demands.

Etiologies: AFB on CSF staining; India ink stain or CSF cryptococcal antigen positivity on lateral flow assays or culture positivity for cryptococcosis, cultures, PCR and other microbiologic tests suggestive of chronic bacterial or fungal infections such as brucellosis, nocardiosis, melioidosis, syphilis, aspergillosis, histoplasmosis etc, CSF cytology positivity for leukematous, lymphomatous or carcinomatous cells, aseptic chronic meningitis in the setting of connective tissue diseases such as SLE, Sjogrenâ??s syndrome, Behcetâ??s disease etc.
