简要总结
Introduction:Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a common vestibular disorder causing brief vertigo episodes due to dislodged otolithic debris in the semicircular canals. It primarily affects older adults, especially women, and significantly impacts balance, mobility, and quality of life.Rationale:BPPV disrupts balance and increases fall risk. While repositioning maneuvers are the primary treatment, additional interventions are needed. Tai Chi enhances balance, coordination, and strength, but its effectiveness in BPPV remains unexplored.Aim:To compare the effects of Tai Chi and Cawthorne-Cooksey exercises on balance and gait in BPPV patients. Objectives:Assess the effect of Tai Chi on balance and gait in BPPV patients.Assess the effect of Cawthorne-Cooksey exercises on balance and gait in BPPV patients.Compare outcomes between the two groups.Outcome Measures:Four Square Step Test – Assesses dynamic stability and coordinationTimed Up and Go Test – Evaluates mobility.Functional Gait Assessment – Measures postural stability and balance during walking.Protocols:Cawthorne-Cooksey Exercise Protocol
- Frequency: 3 times per week for 4 weeks (12 sessions).
- Duration: Starts with a few seconds, progressing to 1-2 minutes per exercise.
- Intensity: Mild to moderate dizziness (4-6/10); stop if symptoms resolve.
- Exercises: Eye, head, shoulder, standing balance, and mobility exercises, progressing from seated to dynamic movements, including walking with eyes open/closed.
Tai Chi Exercise Protocol1. Frequency: 3 times per week for 4 weeks (12 sessions).2. Duration: 40-45 minutes per session3. Intensity: Low to moderate, slow controlled movements4. Exercises: Balance-focused Tai Chi movements, progressively increasing repetitions from 5 to 12 (3 sets)
