Inclusion Criteria
- acute medical inpatients hospitalized at the Geneva University Hospitals or the Lugano Regional Hospitals
Exclusion Criteria
- patients already on therapeutic anticoagulation
- patients with an estimated life expectancy of <3 months
- pregnancy
- patients hospitalized for COVID-19
