简要总结

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality for women in India. Women with a history of adverse pregnancy outcome are suggested to be at a greater risk of developing CVD. In view of this, it is essential to understand the role of prenatal factors which contribute to the increased CVD risk in women in later life. The role of lipids in influencing CVD risk is well established. However, the role of lipid metabolism in the placenta during pregnancy and its influence on the women’s health remains undetermined. Extensive studies at IRSHA on a cohort of women with preeclampsia has highlighted the role of lipids especially fatty acids in influencing pregnancy outcomes. A follow up of this cohort (approx. 15 years post pregnancy) will help us to understand whether changes in prenatal factors during pregnancy can impact or influence the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in mothers with preeclampsia. The current study for the first time aims to explore the maternal and placental lipidome profile of women with preeclampsia and examine its association with cardiovascular risk factors in later life. The study also aims to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms by examining the DNA methylation of genes involved in lipid metabolism.
