ASA physical status II and III patients.
BMI 18 - 35kg/m2.
Type II diabetes mellitus for more than 2 years.
Preoperative blood glucose less than 180mg/dL.
Glycosylated Hemoglobin less than 8.5%.
Patients undergoing elective major surgery under general anesthesia.
Patientâ??s refusal to participate in the study
Increased aspiration risk: Gastroesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer, digestive system tumours, cholelithiasis or history of upper gastrointestinal surgery
Patients kept NPO for their disease conditions
Patients receiving steroids preoperatively or intraoperatively
History of severe hepatitis or renal failure

Name Time Method 1. Preoperative gastric volume <br/ ><br>2. Perioperative blood glucose levelTimepoint: 1. Before induction, 2 hours after the drink <br/ ><br>2. FBS, 1hour after drink, at induction of anaesthesia, hourly during intraoperative period, end of surgery, 8th hourly during 1st 24 hour
