Brief Summary

Every year, one in three individuals over the age of 65 and 50% of those overthe age of 80 experience a fall. Between 20 and 30 percent of these patientswill sustain moderate to severe injuries that make it difficult for them toremain at home, need hospitalization, and have a higher chance of dying. Morethan 581,000 of the 2.2 million older persons who had nonfatal fall injuriestreated in emergency rooms in the United States in 2009 were admitted tohospitals. Existingliterature has found a number of variables linked to older persons’ adoption offall prevention strategies. Sex, age, education, living and health state, socioeconomic situation, cognitive impairment, depression, limited mobility, awareness of fall prevention, and prior experience with falls are some ofthese. Fallprevention has become an important field of research due to the risingfrequency of falls and fall-related injuries. The approach to fall preventionis similarly multimodal because each patient (and each fall) is unique and mayinvolve several distinct factors.Typically, teams of geriatricians, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists carry out all preventativeinitiatives (NICE, 2015). These experts collaborate on the development, implementation, and explicit assessment of fall-prevention techniques used inclinical settings. Exercise has been proven to be a beneficial fall preventionmethod. Physiotherapists are qualified to prescribe exercises with the goal ofpreventing falls. Additionally, comprehending the fall-prevention knowledge andpractices among the elderly is essential for conducting successful fallsprevention programs and might aid in knowledge transfer to other developingnations. Understanding the perceptions of seniorcitizens to Fall risk may help tailor fallinterventions and could improve adherence to recommended interventions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate older persons’ knowledge andpractice of fall prevention.
