Inclusion Criteria

American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I and II scheduled for elective nasal surgeries under general anesthesia with endotracheal tube

Exclusion Criteria

patients who are allergic to study drug (lignocaine)

patients with anticipated difficult airway or at risk of aspiration will be excluded from our study

Patients with retching and vomiting during emergence

patients will be excluded if extubation is done less than one hour after intubation

Primary Outcome Measures

cough score assessmentTimepoint: at 3 min, 6 min, 9 min following extubation and at 5 minutes and 10 minutes after extubation.
Secondary Outcome Measures

Hemodynamic parameters - heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial <br/ ><br>pressure and SpO2 will be measured and recorded. <br/ ><br> <br/ ><br>Any complications following extubation will also be noted <br/ ><br> <br/ ><br>All study patients will be assessed for the presence of sensation of swallowing at 30 min and 60 min post-extubation <br/ ><br> <br/ ><br>All study patients will be assessed for sore throat, hoarseness of voice, odynophagia and post-operative nausea and vomiting in the immediate post-operative period and followed up till symptoms settled <br/ ><br>Timepoint: At baseline, 1 min following induction, <br/ ><br>following intubation, at the end of surgery prior to administration of the study drugs, and at 3-minute <br/ ><br>intervals following it till extubation, immediately following extubation, 5 minutes and 10 min <br/ ><br>following extubation.
