Inclusion Criteria

1. All patients over 18 years in the medical intensive care unit with acute kidney injury who require KRT as determined by treating physician

and

2. Patients with hemodynamic compromise who are unfit to receive intermittent hemodialysis due to the same (systolic less than 100mm Hg or on any inotrope)

Exclusion Criteria

1. Patients with peritonitis, active abdominal infections or any other abdominal pathology that is likely to interfere with intraperitoneal PD fluid dwells

2. Patients who have had previous major abdominal surgeries

3. Patients with abdominal or inguinal hernias

4. Patients with severe inflammatory bowel disease

5. Patients with severe coagulopathy (INR >2) and aPTT more than 1.5 times normal upper limit or platelets less than 50,000cells/cumm

a.To evaluate if there is significant difference in renal recovery or time to renal recovery at 30 days & 3 months in patients treated with SLED vs PD among patients who survive. <br/ ><br>(renal recovery is defined as either partial or complete: becoming dialysis independent, improvement in GFR by 25% or more) <br/ ><br>Timepoint: 30 days & 3 months
