All subjects had visited the Health Screening and Promotion Center of the AMC in 2007 and had undergone follow-up health examinations in 2012. The health screening program included anthropometric measurements (height, weight, and waist circumference), a blood test and pure-tone audiometric examinations.
Patients were excluded due to a range of otologic problems such as asymmetric sensorineural hearing loss (defined as a 15 -decibel hearing level ([dB HL]), or greater asymmetry in two or more frequencies), external or middle ear disease, external or middle ear surgery, noise-induced hearing loss, and ototoxic drug-induced hearing loss. Also, patients were excluded due to who had brain disorders such as stroke, major neurological or psychiatric diseases and other medical problems such as, including liver cirrhosis, chronic renal failure under peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis, and head and or neck radiation exposure.
