a)Patients with acute spinal cord injury (i.e those with neurological deficit) presenting within 7 days of injury.
b)Age above 18 years and below 60 years of age.
a)Cases of spinal trauma without spinal cord injury i.e. patients without neurological deficit.
b)Cases presenting after 7 days of injury.
c)Age below 18 years or above 60 years.
d)Pregnant patients.
e)Past history of radiologically documented venous thromboembolism
f)Cases with a beneficial and clear indication of aspirin use e.g. patients with Myocardial Infarction or those requiring long term antiplatelet therapy.
g)Anticipated non-availability of follow-up and failure or inability to give informed consent.
h)Cases with contraindications to aspirin use, viz. history of acid peptic disease or gastro-esophageal reflux disesase, history of bleeding disorders, hypoprothrombinemia or haemophilias, chronic renal disease or chronic liver disease, history of allergy to aspirin and history of bronchial asthma.
i)Cases who have taken aspirin within 48 hours prior to admission
j)Patients on long term treatment with NSAIDs.
