These imaging datasets were investigated retrospectively based on the following inclusion: Patients (a) undergoing CBCT analysis for dental treatment planning, (b) with one or more upper posterior teeth beneath sinus, (c) consenting to their clinical data being employed for scientific research, and (d) age ≥ 20 years were enrolled. The datasets of all patients indicated an entire sinonasal region and maxilla.
Exclusion criteria were any of the following: Bone-related lesions (such as ossifying fibroma), other benign or malignant neoplasms, trauma or surgery of these region, medical compromise, none of the sinonasal region or maxilla being completely visible, signs of acute sinusitis such as air-fluid levels and complete sinus opacification, presence of allergic rhinitis, fungal sinusitis, systemic diseases capable of affecting the maxillary sinus, congenital disorders as well as syndromes, presence of one or more dental implants, or loss of all posterior teeth in the upper arch. In patients with unilateral edentulous of the upper posterior teeth, only the maxillary sinuses associated with existing teeth were evaluated. Images with incorrect orientations (such as head tilt), low-resolution quality, scattering, insufficient visualization of bony borders, or with artifacts were also excluded from the analysis.
