简要总结
The dissertation titled “Evaluation of Efficacy of Granatum 30C Derived from Plant Source in the Management of Worm Infestation – An Experimental Approach.”
Background of the Study
Worm infestation (helminthiasis) is a common parasitic infection affecting mainly children and individuals living in areas with poor sanitation. In India, millions of children are at risk of soil-transmitted helminth infections. These infections can lead to abdominal pain, itching at the anus, diarrhoea, anemia, malnutrition, weakness, weight loss, and impaired growth. Reinfection is common despite national deworming programs.
Although conventional anthelmintic drugs are effective, prolonged use may cause side effects and drug resistance. Therefore, there is a need for a safer, economical, and holistic alternative. Homoeopathy provides individualized and constitutional treatment for worm infestation.
About the Medicine – Granatum
Granatum is prepared from Punica granatum (pomegranate). In homoeopathy, it is known for its strong action on the gastrointestinal tract and its vermifuge (anti-worm) properties. It produces symptoms such as nausea, salivation, vertigo, abdominal pain around the umbilicus, itching at the anus, constant hunger, and crawling sensations — symptoms commonly seen in worm infestation.
Traditional knowledge and Materia Medica references describe Granatum as particularly useful in tapeworm and roundworm infections. The presence of natural alkaloids like pelletierine in the crude drug further supports its anthelmintic action. However, scientific experimental studies evaluating Granatum 30C are limited, creating a research gap.
Research Gap
Previous studies have reported improvement in worm infestation using remedies such as Calcarea carb and Cuprum oxydatum nigrum, but no specific experimental study has been conducted on Granatum 30C in worm infestation. This study aims to fill that gap.
Research Question
Is Granatum 30C effective in the management of worm infestation?
Hypothesis
Null hypothesis: Granatum 30C has no significant therapeutic effect on worm infestation.
Alternative hypothesis: Granatum 30C has a significant therapeutic effect on worm infestation.
Objectives
To assess the efficacy of Granatum 30C in patients with worm infestation.
To evaluate improvement in general well-being after treatment.
Methodology
Study Design: Prospective experimental study
Sample Size: 30 patients
Study Duration: 9 months
Setting: OPD, regular camp visit, peripheral centers of C.D. Pachchigar College of Homoeopathic Medicine & Hospital, Surat.
Age Group: 3–30 years
Inclusion Criteria: Diagnosed cases of intestinal worm infestation
Exclusion Criteria: Patients above 30 years or with major chronic illnesses
Assessment Criteria
Patients will be evaluated using a worm infestation scoring chart based on symptoms such as:
Abdominal discomfort
Itching
Fatigue
Anaemia
Visible worms
Weight loss
Improvement will be categorized as:
Significant improvement
Moderate improvement
Status quo
Significance of the Study
This research aims to provide scientific and statistical validation for Granatum 30C in worm infestation. If proven effective, it can offer a safe, affordable, and holistic alternative treatment.
Conclusion
The study attempts to bridge the research gap by experimentally evaluating Granatum 30C in worm infestation. It seeks to contribute evidence-based support to homoeopathic pharmacy and strengthen the therapeutic application of plant-derived remedy in parasitic infections.
