Overview

Brief Summary

Aim: Compare the effects of cardiac rehabilitation on autonomic, hemodynamic, metabolic, and physical capacity parameters between subjects undergoing PTCA and CB for acute coronary syndrome. Results: 34 of the 58 subjects participated in the two evaluations, finding that in the baseline evaluation there were differences in heart rate variability (HRV), measured through the RR interval, in fasting blood glucose and in functional capacity, finding more favorable results in the PTCA group. After the cardiac rehabilitation program, significant changes were found in the CB group in HRV measured through the RR interval and in functional capacity. When comparing the groups there were no differences in any of the measured variables. Conclusion: The people analyzed in the present study, who underwent percutaneous revascularization, showed better cardiovascular autonomic modulation and functional physical capacity before beginning a phase II cardiac rehabilitation process. After this treatment, subjects undergoing coronary bypass increased cardiac variability and tolerance to physical effort, changes that were not evident in those who received PTCA; however, when comparing groups, no significant differences were found after the cardiac rehabilitation program phase 2.
