研究概览

简要总结

This study investigates the efficacy of a plant essential oil as a repellent against insects through a comprehensive within-subject laboratory and field trial. With a rising demand for natural alternatives to synthetic repellents, the potential of plant-derived solutions is of great interest. Utilizing a controlled laboratory setting, participants will be exposed to simulated insect environments with and without the application of the plant essential oil. Their responses, including attraction, landing, and biting frequencies, will be recorded and analyzed. Subsequently, a field trial will be conducted to assess the repellent’s performance in real-world conditions. Participants will apply the oil during outdoor activities, and their experiences will be compared to control conditions. This dual approach aims to provide a holistic understanding of the plant essential oil’s effectiveness as an insect repellent, offering insights into both controlled and natural settings. The findings of this study could contribute to the development of eco-friendly alternatives for insect control and public health protection.

结局指标

主要结局

To measure the protective efficacy (personal protection) of a plant essential oil, by comparison of the inhibition of mosquito contacts on participants before and after their application.

时间窗: After the application of essential its repellent efficacy will be observed | after 15 min, then 30 min followed by 45 minutes. After wards its efficacy will be observed after 1 hour of application. Finally, the repelling efficacy will be observed after 6 h. | This is well accepted procedures by WHO for testing the efficacy of mosquito repellents. | WHO- GUIDELINES FOR EFFICACY TESTING OF MOSQUITO REPELLENTS FOR HUMAN SKIN

次要结局

  • 1. To compare the duration of protection offered by different repellent products using the median Complete Protection Time (mCPT)(2. To compare the effectiveness of protection offered by different repellent products)
