INTRODUCTION
During general anaesthesia difficulty in tracheal intubation and management of complicated airways remains one of the most important and demanding tasks. The traditional approach and agreed practice for tracheal intubation has been direct laryngoscopy using blade adjustment with Macintosh blade in adults. It requires skill and alignment of oropharyngo-laryngeal axis which is not always possible and thus poses a difficulty.
Visualization of vocal cords with instruments via an optical system or through a video systemia an alternative to direct laryngoscopy. Compared with it, video laryngoscopes have been described as being able to minimise difficulty, failure, trauma, and other complications.
The aim of this study is to compare the efficiency of vLarynx video laryngoscope with King Vision video laryngoscope as control while intubating patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study will include 60 patients undergoing elective general surgery under general anaesthesia requiring endotracheal intubation. Each group will include 30 patients.
Primary objective: To compare the laryngoscopy and intubation time using the two devices
Secondary objectives: To compare number of attempts for successful intubation, compare the glottic view using POGO (percentage of glottic opening) score, grade the ease of tracheal intubation using these devices, compare the hemodynamic response i.e., Heart Rate and Mean Arterial Blood Pressure after laryngoscopy and intubation and to look for post operative complications if any.
RESULTS
Above quoted parameters will be recorded for both the devices and compared in this study.
