Brief Summary

Metabolic bone diseases were common in most patients with OA knee, and vitamin D insufficiency, osteoporosis and osteopenia conditions were mainly identified. These preventable conditions have risk factors that are mostly correctable. Further analysis is necessary to establish solid evidence in the comparison of risk factors between the OA and non-OA groups.

Inclusion Criteria

1. Patient with osteoarthritis of the knee visiting outpatient clinic
2. female age>55, male age > 60
3. domicile in Bangkok area

Exclusion Criteria

1. Previous treatment of calcium, vitamin D
2. History of fragility fracture
3. History of previous hip, knee or spine surgery
4. Underlying disease which alter metabolism of bone : ESRD, metastasis cancer, inflammatory joint disease
5. Bed ridden, unable to walk
6. Smoking
7. Steroid used
8. Rejected to participate in study
