A observational study to compare laryngeal view in two different positions for intubation
- Registration Number
- CTRI/2022/06/042954
- Lead Sponsor
- Department of Anaesthesiology
- Brief Summary
Plan to conduct the present study to compare the ease of intubation between the two different laryngoscopy positions and to find the optimal laryngoscopic plane to avoid difficult intuibating conditions. Intubation is an art that is practiced by all but perfected by anaesthetists and by doing this research we can avoid on table difficult airway scenarios which is a challenge to all anaesthetists. By finding out the optimal intubating position , the anaesthetist can pre operatively assess and place the patient in the optimal position and therby minimising the risk of difficult to ventilate and difficult to intubate situations.

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Proportional Difference in Cormack Lehane grading in two laryngoscopy positions- sniffing position (SP) versus position attained by horizontal alignment of external auditory meatus- sternal notch line (AM-S) 5 minutes
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Determine difference in mean intubation time taken while performing laryngoscopy in SP position versus position attained by alignment of AM-S Within 5 minutes of testing position Determine difference in Intubation Difficulty Scale (IDS) between two positions Within 5 minutes from achieving testing position Determine mean pillow height required for alignment of AM-S position 15 minutes after achieving AM-S position
